Emfit is a Finnish sensor company known for contact free monitoring. Its EMFIT QS system sits beneath a mattress and automatically tracks sleep and recovery without a wearable. The company also supplies systems for care settings and research.
How it works
A thin sensor detects the small body movements created by each heartbeat, breathing and changes in position. This method is called ballistocardiography. Cloud software analyses the signals to estimate heart rate, breathing rate, heart rate variability, movement and sleep stages. Results appear in a browser based service and can be shared for research.
Key considerations
QS measures movement through the mattress, so mattress type, another person or pets may affect the signal. Sleep stages and recovery scores are calculated estimates. The system is useful for long term patterns, but it does not replace a clinical sleep study or medical assessment.
