WHAT THEY MAKE

SOND is an American startup developing Dreambuds, earbuds for overnight sensing and adaptive audio. The company was founded by sleep specialists, and its first product is being introduced commercially.

How it works
Sensors inside the ear track movement, temperature, pulse, breathing and body signals. Software uses these changes to estimate sleep onset and progress. The earbuds then adjust noise control, masking sounds and audio programmes during the night. A charging case stores downloaded tracks, allowing features to work without an internet connection.

Key considerations
Dreambuds are new, so independent evidence for long term sleep improvement is limited. Ear shape and fit affect comfort, sensing and sound isolation, and sleeping with earbuds will not suit everyone. The system may reduce disruptive sound but cannot remove every noise or guarantee uninterrupted sleep.
