Sabi is a California startup that came out of stealth in 2026 with a knitted beanie designed to read the brain. A baseball cap version is in development, the company is backed by Khosla Ventures, and the stated goal is a shipping product for ordinary buyers.

How it works

Brain cells produce faint electrical activity that reaches the scalp weakened by skull and skin. Research caps pick it up with a few dozen to a few hundred metal contacts, which has never been sharp enough to follow inner speech. Sabi packs in tens of thousands of far smaller contacts and feeds the noisy result into a model trained on thousands of hours of recordings, aiming for about thirty words a minute of thought to text.
