IDUN Technologies is a Swiss neurotechnology company developing brain sensing earbuds and software. Its Guardian platform is designed for researchers and developers who want to collect brain activity during sleep and cognitive tasks without a traditional scalp headset.
How it works
An electrode inside the ear detects electrical signals produced by groups of brain cells. This single channel electroencephalography signal is sent wirelessly to IDUN software, where users can access raw data or classifiers for patterns such as eye movement, jaw clenching and frequency bands. Newer Guardian earbuds also combine brain sensing, motion recording, audio and processing within the device.
Key considerations
In ear electroencephalography offers convenient recording, but it captures less spatial detail than a multi electrode laboratory system. Fit, movement and muscle activity can introduce noise.
