Emotiv is a neurotechnology company that develops wireless electroencephalography headsets and software. Its Brainwear range includes products for research, brain computer interfaces, workplace studies and performance. Different models trade sensor coverage, setup time and freedom of movement for different use cases.
How it works
Small electrodes on the scalp or inside the ears detect faint voltage changes produced by groups of brain cells. The headset sends these electroencephalography signals to Emotiv software, which can display raw brain data or calculate measures linked with attention, stress and engagement. Motion sensors record head movement, and software tools allow researchers and developers to build experiments or controls.
Key considerations
Signal quality depends on fit, electrode contact, movement and electrical interference. Calculated mental states are interpretations of complex brain activity and need careful experimental design. Some data access, analysis and development features require separate software licences or subscriptions.
