Casana is an American health technology company that turns a household fixture into a passive monitor. Its Smart Seat replaces an elongated toilet seat and records vital sign trends whenever an adult sits down, without requiring a watch, ring or separate measurement routine.

How it works
Metal contacts record the heart’s electrical rhythm, optical sensors measure changes in blood flow and pressure sensors detect tiny body movements created by each heartbeat. Software combines these signals to estimate heart rate, blood oxygen, breathing, blood pressure trends and sit to stand power. Results appear in a companion app and can be shared.

Key considerations
The current Smart Seat only fits elongated toilets and has stated limits for age, weight, pregnancy, pacemakers and persistent irregular heart rhythms. Earlier Heart Seat functions received narrower regulatory clearance.
