Alveos is a Finnish company in Espoo building a chest worn breathing sensor. Alveos One attaches magnetically through clothing over the sternum, holds about eight days of battery and is currently sold on preorder.

How it works

Breathing and the heart both make sound inside the chest. An acoustic sensor pressed to the skin listens to those sounds, so breathing rate and depth are measured directly at the source. An independent university test put its breathing rate within two breaths a minute of clinical equipment on most readings. The app charts how state shifts across a day, a small buzz on the chest flags a change without a screen, and short guided routines steady the breath again.
