Sensate is made by BioSelf Technology, a London company founded by a clinician who spent years working on relaxation therapy. The product is a smooth pebble that rests on the breastbone during a session of ten minutes or more, usually lying down.
How it works
Inside is a motor that vibrates below the range of human hearing. Bone carries those low vibrations through the chest, where they reach the vagus nerve, the nerve that carries the body's calming signals up and down the torso. A matching soundscape plays through headphones at the same time. The intended result is a settled, drowsy state that arrives without meditation practice or skill.
Key considerations
The pebble sends and never listens, so nothing about the user is measured, and the wider sound library sits behind a paid tier.
