STRIV is a European company developing smart insoles for runners. The inserts sit inside running shoes and are designed to measure foot loading, then provide training and technique feedback.
How it works
Pressure sensors measure foot force and location during each step. Motion sensors record movement. Software combines the signals to calculate cadence, contact time, force, balance, foot strike and running form. Results appear in an app, with live coaching intended to help runners adjust pace or technique during a session.
Key considerations
Insoles must fit the shoe and stay correctly positioned. Shoe type, surface, speed and fatigue all change pressure patterns, so comparisons work best under similar conditions. Sensors also face repeated impact, sweat and bending. Gait metrics can guide training, but they cannot identify an injury or guarantee that a technique change is safe.
