Fort is an American startup founded by former Tesla engineers, building a wrist wearable aimed at strength training, the part of exercise most trackers handle worst. It has no screen and no notifications, is styled closer to jewellery than to sports kit, and holds more than a week of battery.

How it works

Three signals come off the wrist. An accelerometer reads movement, an optical sensor shines light into the skin and reads the pulse beneath it, and a thermometer follows skin temperature. Software recognises the movement pattern of a lift or a class, counts the work, then places it beside sleep and daily activity in one picture.

Key considerations

The band is on preorder and has not shipped. Cycle tracking appears on the site as a future feature, which means it is not yet something the device does.
