Sentech is a South Korean sensor company behind KETOSCAN, a handheld breath device for people following a ketogenic diet and fat metabolism. The user breathes into the device, and results appear on a display or phone.
How it works
When the body uses more fat for energy, it produces ketones, including acetone that leaves through the lungs. A gas sensor measures acetone concentration in breath. Software converts the reading into a breath ketone level and stores trends, helping show how diet, fasting or exercise relates to ketosis.
Key considerations
Breath acetone is different from blood ketones, so values from the two methods do not match directly. Breathing technique, alcohol, food and sensor condition can affect results. The sensing cartridge has a limited test life and requires replacement or calibration depending on the model. KETOSCAN does not manage diabetic ketoacidosis or replace clinical ketone testing.
