Baliston is an American footwear company that makes subscription based smart shoes designed by Philippe Starck. A removable sensor module sits inside each shoe and records how the wearer stands and walks. The service also includes personalised insoles and replacement shoes when the current pair wears out.
How it works
Motion sensors measure acceleration and rotation in three dimensions as each foot moves. Software analyses these signals to estimate posture, walking symmetry, pronation, propulsion and heel impact. The Baliston app turns the results into movement scores, trends and exercises intended to improve walking habits.
Key considerations
Access is built around an annual membership, which creates a recurring cost and ties the sensors, shoes and app together. Battery life also depends on how often the sensor modules collect and transfer data.
