Actxa is a Singaporean preventive health company founded in 2015, best known at home for supplying trackers to the government steps programme. It now sells the Core smart ring and a screenless band, both built around a glucose feature.

How it works

Both devices shine light into the skin and read the pulse in the blood below, the same optical method used for heart rate everywhere. Actxa trained a model on the shape of that pulse against clinic glucose tests, so a one minute reading returns an estimated range and an indicative value. Sleep stages, activity, VO2 max and a recovery reading come off the same sensors.

Key considerations

No wearable anywhere has been cleared to measure glucose through unbroken skin. Actxa sells the feature as a wellness estimate and states it is not for anyone managing diabetes.
